The Right Clean. The Right Way.
Most cleaning companies only know one method: high-pressure jet washing. That works fine on concrete driveways, but it can destroy render, void roof warranties and force water behind cladding.
At H2O Surface Cleaning, we match the technique to the surface. Hard surfaces get industrial pressure washing. Delicate surfaces get low-pressure soft washing with eco-friendly biocides or steam cleaning up to 150°C.
The result? A perfectly clean property – with no damage, no shortcuts and no nasty chemicals.

FAQ
General & Process
What's the difference between pressure washing and soft washing?
Pressure washing uses high-pressure water (often heated) to blast away dirt, moss, algae, and stains from hard surfaces like concrete driveways, block paving, patios, and brickwork. Soft washing uses low pressure (similar to a garden hose) combined with biodegradable biocides to gently kill algae, mould, and bacteria at the root – perfect for delicate surfaces like render, roofs, painted cladding, and timber. We use both methods, depending on what your property needs.
Will pressure washing damage my render or roof?
Yes – if done by someone who only knows jet washing. High pressure can blow holes in modern render (K-rend, monocouche) and will void most roof tile warranties. That’s why we use soft washing for render and roofs. It applies a gentle biocide spray that kills algae and cleans the surface without any risk of water ingress or physical damage.
Do you clean commercial properties as well as homes?
Yes. We work with both residential and commercial customers. Commercial projects include office blocks, shop facades, garage forecourts, car parks, apartment buildings, hotels, and industrial units. We have CHAS premium accreditation, NEBOSH certification, and fully trained staff for high-reach and safety-critical work.
Are your cleaning chemicals safe for my pets and plants?
Yes. Our soft wash biocides are biodegradable and environmentally friendly. Before we start, we pre-water any nearby plants and rinse thoroughly afterwards. We simply ask that you keep pets indoors until the treated surfaces are fully dry – usually 2 to 4 hours. Once dry, it’s completely safe.
How do you clean high buildings or hard-to-reach areas?
We use a combination of telescopic water-fed poles (up to 60ft), cherry pickers, and mobile scaffolding where required. Our team is fully trained for working at height and all equipment is regularly inspected and insured. We clean everything from three-storey townhouses in Hereford to office blocks in Birmingham city centre.
Do you offer free quotes and site visits?
Yes – completely free with no obligation. For larger jobs (commercial buildings, full roof cleans, listed properties) we prefer to visit in person to assess access, water supply, and any specific challenges. For smaller jobs (driveways, patios, single wall cleaning), we can quote from photos and measurements.

Roof Cleaning
How often should I clean my roof?
Every 3 to 5 years, depending on your location and surrounding trees. Regular cleaning prevents moss from lifting tiles, blocking gutters, and causing damp issues inside your home. A clean roof also looks better and can improve your property’s energy efficiency by allowing tiles to reflect heat properly.
Do you pressure wash roofs?
No – and you should never let anyone pressure wash your roof. High pressure forces water under tiles, dislodges fixings, and voids nearly all manufacturer warranties. Instead, we manually scrape heavy moss and then apply a soft wash biocide that kills algae down to the root, or we use low-pressure steam cleaning for a deeper clean. Safe for clay tiles, concrete tiles, slate, and even solar panels.
Can you clean roof solar panels?
Yes – using our soft wash method only. We never pressure wash solar panels. Our low-pressure biocide spray removes bird droppings, pollen, and atmospheric dirt without damaging the panels or voiding your warranty. Clean solar panels can generate up to 20% more energy.
My roof has black streaks – what is that?
Those black streaks are not dirt – they’re a type of algae called Gloeocapsa magma. It feeds on the limestone filler in asphalt shingles and concrete tiles. Standard jet washing only removes the surface colour; the algae grows back within months. Our soft wash biocide kills the algae at its root, so it stays clean for years.
Render & Brick Cleaning
My render has gone green and black – can you clean it?
Yes. That green and black discolouration is a combination of algae, mould, and fungus – very common on K-rend, monocouche, and silicone render. High pressure will blow holes in render, so we use soft washing. The biocide spray kills everything at the root, and within 4 to 8 weeks your render will be uniformly bright again.
Will brick cleaning damage my pointing?
No – when done correctly. We assess your brickwork first. For hard bricks with cement mortar, we use controlled low pressure steam cleaning. For softer, older bricks (common in Herefordshire and Monmouthshire), we use chemical brick cleaners with a low-pressure rinse. We never use aggressive pressure that could erode brick faces or blow out pointing.
What is efflorescence and can you remove it?
Efflorescence is the white, powdery salt deposit you see on new brickwork, block paving, or stone. It appears when water carries salts to the surface. Yes, we can remove it using specialist brick cleaning chemicals that dissolve the salts without damaging the surface. We then rinse thoroughly. For new-builds, we often combine this with mortar smear removal.
Cladding & Facades
Can you clean UPVC cladding without leaving streaks?
Yes. We use two methods depending on the level of dirt. For light biological growth, we use a pure water pole system – no detergents, no streaks, just clean. For heavy grime, we use a low-pressure biocide rinse or steam cleaning. We never use high pressure on cladding, which can force water behind the panels and cause hidden damp issues.
Will soft washing damage painted timber cladding?
No – soft washing is the only recommended method for painted timber. High pressure strips paint and forces water into the wood grain. Our low-pressure biocide spray gently removes algae and dirt without lifting paint. We also offer steam cleaning for painted timber if a non-chemical method is preferred.
